GRO Lesotho Opens the Leribe Resource Center

In October the Lesotho Educational Advancement Program (L.E.A.P.) opened the G.R.O. Resource Centre which is designed to prepare local high school students in advancing their studies, preparing for higher education opportunities, and helping students in their career decisions. The Centre is also open to the public in the community to use computers or check out books at the newly opened library. The centre is currently offering free lessons in computers, typing, and CV writing. The centre and classes are supported by the LEAP coordinator Katiso Mota, Youth Councilor Teboho Skundla, and Peace Corps Volunteer Adam Peel. Thanks from the supports of AUSaid and CFLI the centre is in now in full use.

GRO Distributes Annual Holiday ‘Crisis Kits’

During the month of November, the Lesotho Educational Advancement Program distributed crisis kits to needy students throughout schools in the Leribe District. The kits include essential items for students including school uniforms and school wear , an allotment of food, and soap. The crisis kits will help alleviate stress for families raising orphans and vulnerable children within the community. The LEAP Coordinator Katiso Mota and Youth Councilor Keketso Rafoneke worked with schools and communities to locate students that were in need of help. The distribution of crisis kits was a success with the Senior Education Officer showing her support and helping to distribute the crisis kits with the G.R.O. Team.

GRO Lesotho Partners with St.Paul School for the Deaf & National Association of the Deaf Lesotho

The G.R.O. Foundation partnered with the National Association of the Deaf Lesotho (NADL) and National Federation Of The Organizations Of The Disabled (LNFOD) to host trainings for service providers in the community. The trainings raised awareness for the deaf and disabled and taught basic sign language to key service providers. The G.R.O. Foundation staff and volunteers are also taking ongoing sign language classes to help provide better services to the deaf in the community. With this new partnership the G.R.O. Foundation looks to be an ongoing positive influence in the lives of the deaf throughout Leribe.

Update on the GRO Artisans Collective

The G.R.O. Artisans are busy preparing for the Christmas Season. With new designs and new retail outlets in the past six months the Artisans are steadily growing and improving their business. They are currently taking computer and English lessons before work in the morning and are improving their skills day by day. They have also just recently completed two trainings in business and agriculture. The Artisans have also added 3 new members. The Artisans look are forward to 2012 and another successful year.
