In April of 2008 The G.R.O. Foundation Lesotho was registered as a non-profit organization in the Kingdom of Lesotho. Project partners representing all three G.R.O. projects collaborated to form the executive board of the organization and have involved members from their community to support their separate initiatives. Advocates from The G.R.O. Foundation Canada will continue to raise funds to support these projects and involve local partners to expand the poverty reduction initiatives of G.R.O. Lesotho.
The Objectives of G.R.O. Lesotho are:
-
To be a collective of poverty reduction, educational and social outreach projects for the people of Leribe District and Lesotho.
- To provide support to the families and children affected by HIV/AIDS and poverty, in particular students orphaned by the loss of their parents.
- To provide academic scholarships to students attending High School in Leribe Lesotho in partnership with school administration.
- To provide local students with Life skills, social awareness and HIV/AIDS education through the use of local peer advisors and support.
- To establish community projects to provide ways for people living with HIV/AIDS and/or those affected by poverty to earn incomes and sustain livelihoods.
- To act on behalf of local artisans in Lesotho by connecting them to the global market for the sale of handicrafts and jewellery.
- To support grandmothers and elderly caregivers in providing financial, educational and social support to families affected by HIV/AIDS and poverty.
The G.R.O. Foundation Lesotho operates under registered non-profit number 2008/114 in the Kingdom of Lesotho.
